RAINDROP

NEAR VISION INLAY

Raindrop is a small, transparent disk called an inlay. In a quick, LASIK-like procedure the Raindrop is designed to help you regain your near vision without the need for reading glasses.

WHAT IS PRESBYOPIA?

Presbyopia is a normal aging condition of the eye that begins around 40-50 years of age resulting in a slow but continuous loss of near vision over 20 years that is correctable with reading glasses or multifocal contact lenses.

CAUSES

The cause of presbyopia is thought to be due to a slow loss of elasticity of the human lens and resultant loss of additional power needed for near vision work. This results in having to hold reading material further away, blinking trying to clear the vision, and eye strain especially under low light conditions.

WHAT IS RAINDROP TECHNOLOGY?

ReVision Optics recently received FDA approval for its product, Raindrop Near Vision Inlay, a hydrogel implant to the central cornea.  Dr. Poppell uses the femto-second laser to create a LASIK flap.  The corneal flap is lifted and the hydrogel implant, mainly 80% water and about as thick as a human hair, is centered on the visual axis and the flap sealed over the implant.  No tissue is removed or reshaped as in LASIK/PRK so there is very little remodeling or regression requiring additional surgery.  Vision recovers almost immediately.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Dr. Poppell takes less than 10 minutes to complete the surgical implant.  The patient takes eye drops  for several weeks and wears a night shield to prevent rubbing of the eye while asleep.  Simple.

INSURANCE DOES NOT PAY

This is an out of pocket expense; however, you save all the annual visits for contact lenses, solutions, and cost of contact lenses which will pay for the procedure in cost savings over time. Care Credit is available to offer financial assistance.
