Eventually everyone experiences presbyopia. It usually begins to affect vision around age 40. Prior to this time, when light from a near object entered the eye, the cornea refracted the light, causing a curvature of the lens and accommodation occurred. This refocused light back onto the retina. The aging process causes a gradual hardening of the lens, which may restrict accommodation. The eye loses its ability to clearly see all objects at different distances.
